Life had been hard for Molly, and her biggest worry was her son, Tommy. Constantly moving from town to town and switching schools was taking a toll on him. He began acting out, bullying other kids, and starting fights. Molly never expected a call from the school principal would bring back a part of her past she thought was long gone.
At home, tensions with her husband, Nigel, continued to grow. Nigel often referred to Tommy as “your son,” refusing to acknowledge him as his own. “Why can’t you get your son to behave?” he snapped one evening. The fact that Nigel never accepted Tommy, though they had been together for years, hurt Molly deeply.
The next day, Molly went to the school for a meeting about Tommy’s disruptive behavior. To her shock, she found Christian, her ex-boyfriend, standing with the principal. Christian, who had walked out on her years ago, looked at Tommy and said, “I see myself in him. I made a mistake, and I want to make things right.”
Molly wasn’t sure how to feel about his sudden reappearance, but she knew that something had to change. That night, after another argument with Nigel, Molly returned home to find him passed out with a bottle of whiskey.
Finally, Molly made a decision. She packed their bags, woke Tommy, and whispered, “We’re going somewhere better, Tommy. Somewhere where we’ll be loved.”
As they left the apartment, Molly felt hope for the first time in years.
